Who is Felix?

 

 Felix Scheinberger (*1969 in Frankfurt am Main) is a german artist, sketcher and illustrator. Along

with magazines and newspapers he also illustrated various books and wrote his own textbooks.

He became popular by bringing the Urban Sketching Movement to Europe. His book Dare to

Sketch (first German edition published 2009) was the first book to be issued in Germany about

Urban Sketching.


Felix Scheinberger studied graphic design with a focus on Illustration in Hamburg under Klaus

Ensikat and Erhard Götlicher. Later he published at the Büchergilde Gutenberg as well as

publishing house Hermann Schmidt in Mainz. He gained further popularity through illustrating

various books like his illustration for Paul Auster’s In the Country Of Last Things (2001 or

Thomas Mann’s novel Death In Venice (2005). In 2011 the Büchergilde Gutenberg published

Scheinbergers Homo Faber (2011). Further on he wrote multiple textbooks about sketching and

illustration, for example Dare to sketch (2017 Watson-Guptill Publications) , Urban Water Colour

Sketching (2011, Watson-Guptill Publications) and How to Make a Living from Illustration (2020,

Hoaki) among many others.


Felix Scheinberger took on the job as lecturer for sketching and illustration at the HAW in

Hamburg and University of Applied Sciences in Mainz in 2007. A year later he went to Jerusalem

as a visiting professor at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Since September of 2010 he is

a professor for drawing and illustration at the design department at the University Of Applied

Sciences in Münster.


Scheinberger is a member of the board of trustees of literature magazine Belletristik. From 2010

until 2012 he was substitute head of the Illustrators Organisation (IO) of the professional

association of German Illustrators.

Felix Scheinberger lives in Berlin.
